"Pleasure of the First Mark" Spotlight: The Faerie-Friendly Bookstore

I'm so thrilled that my new paranormal FF short romance "Pleasure of the First Mark" is now available for you to read! In today's behind-the-scenes blog post about the story, I wanted to focus on the bookstore that I wrote into the tale, The Attic.

Main character, Piper, is on lunch break from a day job that really drags her down. Her boss is a total bully, and she also has to hide her true Pixie identity while at work. To get some relief from all the stress, she goes to The Attic, her favorite Faerie-friendly bookstore.

Fun fact: I loosely based The Attic on an actual bookstore in Denton, TX, called Recycled Books

It's located downtown in the historic square, where there are lots of other fun places to shop, eat, and drink. Recycled Books has, of course, books, but also CDs, vinyl records, vintage video games, and more. Large aisles as well as hidden nooks and crannies are spread across three floors of what used to be an old opera house, so the building in itself is a cool thing to look at even if you're not in the mood to shop.

I love this place so much that I have had a bumper sticker on my car for years advertising it. (You can pick up those for free at their front desk to help them get the word out about the store!)

Another thing that's eye-catching about The Attic is the mural on the side of the building. To me, it looks like something out of The Beatles Yellow Submarine movie. Here I am, a few years back, posing in front of it:

"Pleasure of the First Mark" is now available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited! Check it out if you're looking for your own little escape! I'm planning on turning this paranormal lesfic romance into a series if people like it, so if you read it, be sure to leave a review, send me an email (scarlettknightbooks@gmail.com) or leave a comment here on the blog!

And as always, thanks for stopping by!

Now Available: "Pleasure of the First Mark"!

 Now available!

Piper is a Pixie who lives her days passing as a human, but she is desperate to get away from her stressful dead-end office job and her conservative boss from hell. As she takes an extended lunch period to hang out at the local Faerie-friendly bookstore, she distracts herself from work by daydreaming about the bookstore’s manager, a reserved but sexy Dryad named Tory. But when she and Tory actually have a conversation for the first time, Piper realizes her dreams of getting to know her might be possible. Tory, however, still doesn’t know Piper’s true identity as a Fae. Could a Dryad actually fall for a Pixie? As her lunch period runs out, Piper realizes she has two choices: run back to the job she hates and play it safe, or take a chance on love.

The Neon Fishnets’ lead guitarist, Raina Emerson, returns home from rehab a changed woman. Embarking on rock star life as a clean and sober musician isn’t easy, especially since Raina has been the band’s notorious party girl for the past decade, but she is totally up for the challenge. With a new album topping the charts, a tour coming up, and her band mates providing their love and support, everything is moving along perfectly.

That is, until a different kind of temptation enters her life in the form of a beautiful woman named Lara Thompson. Complicating things even further is the fact that Raina and Lara have a history, a shared dark past that Raina isn’t ready to confront.

Hello, August!

I don't know about you guys, but I am rolling into August with a sigh of relief and a smile of anticipation!

After what was, for me, one of the most challenging months of July on record (damn you, Mercury Retrograde!), I am finally feeling some forward motion in my life. Sometimes we have to revisit old shit in order to clear it up for good and move to the next level of our personal growth and expansion. Forget waiting for New Years! It's time for some new goals!

In fact, I've talked to several people lately who are coming up with a list of mid-year goals for themselves. I find it interesting that a number of minds are all thinking along these lines at the same time. Anyway, my mid-year goals include revamping my overall health. I've gone a little crazy with some of my worst health habits due to an emotionally challenging summer, but now, I'm getting back on track and am using every ounce of willpower to smash them!

I'm also hitting the reset button on my reading and writing goals. I had been letting my summer reading slip, and that was partly due to being stuck in the middle of a book that was boring me. Life is too short to trudge through books that you aren't into! So I tossed that one, picked up a new one, happily read it in three days, and am now more eager to get on with the rest of my summer reading list.

As for writing projects, I'm gearing up for the release of my newest book, THE NEON FISHNETS, BOOK 1: PLAYING WITH FIRE. It's the first novel my first ever FF romance trilogy, and it centers around the sexy lives of the all-female fictional rock band The Neon Fishnets. Book 1 is from Jackie's point of view. She's the new bassist who has a less-than-friendly history with The Fishnets's keyboardist, Ivy. (Get ready, fans of the enemies-to-lovers trope! This one's sizzling!)

So what about you? How is your August starting off? Got any mid-year goals? Ready for Fall? Please leave a comment!

Spotlight on "A Twist of Christmas Fate": My Personal Experience at a Santa House

In my new FF Christmas short romance, "A Twist of Christmas Fate," the main character, Kate, gets roped into playing Mrs. Claus at a holiday photo booth in the mall. While she's there, she meets Mickey, who is playing an elf. While many of the details of this story came purely from my imagination, I do have some personal experience playing a Christmas elf!

Here's the embarrassing evidence...

The location where I played an elf back in high school was a beautiful historical home, which made for a perfect real-looking Santa House, much more authentic than the usual mall setup. It was a lot of fun getting to see the joy on all the children's faces as they met Santa, some of them for the first time! Back in the day, I had dreams of being an actress, so dressing up and playing a role was easy for me. I thought it might be fun, however, to create a character who had zero experience acting. So in "A Twist of Christmas Fate," I made Kate a math teacher at a local community college, and I gave her a little bit of social anxiety to boot. She ends up playing Mrs. Claus, not because she planned on it, but more as a favor for a friend. At first she's nervous, but once she's there (especially after she meets Mickey, the gorgeous lady love interest of the tale) she really starts to enjoy the experience.

The story's available through multiple e-book retailers and is only $0.99! It's something sweet and festive to add to your lesbian romance collection. I hope you'll check it out!
